The Flintstones were the first animated series on network television. It was produced by Hanna-Barbera and ran on ABC-TV from 1960 through 1966.
The story was about a working class family set in a fictionalized prehistoric period that included dinosaurs, saber tooth tigers and wooly mammoths and were contemporaries with a 20th Century human society. The technology was mostly accomplished by unusual uses of animals. The story writers were very fond of puns and plays on words that made the show popular with adults as well as children.
